(This poem was written to be sung to the tune "Jingle Bells".)

(Chorus 1) Jesus Christ, Son of God, King of all the earth,

How we love to praise Your Name and celebrate Your birth!

Jesus Christ, Son of God, King of all the earth,

How we love to praise Your Name and celebrate Your birth!

Born in Bethlehem, two thousand years ago,

He came one lonely night, to all His love to show.

Predicted long before, the King of kings to be,

This tiny Baby is the One Who reigns eternally.

(Chorus 1)

Shepherds on the hills expected nothing new,

A night of watching sheep, the stars above in view;

When angels lit the sky with news of Jesus’ days,

They went to town to see the Babe, Who’s worthy of our praise.

(Chorus 1)

Wise men from the east traveled from their land

To see the little Boy whose star had seemed so grand.

They carried precious gifts; they gave them to the Boy,

And went back home to tell their friends of never-ending joy.

(Chorus 1)

The bells are ringing still, to tell of Jesus’ birth.

The choirs are singing out, to give Him all He’s worth.

And yet the world goes on, not knowing Him Who came

To give eternal life to all who call upon His Name.

(Chorus 2) Jesus Christ, Son of God, help us praise Your Name.

Teach us how to tell the world You love us all the same.

Jesus Christ, Son of God, help us praise Your Name.

Teach us how to tell the world You love us all the same.

Why did I write this?

In 2003, the Children's Sunday School literature my church uses recommended an activity for the children, in which they would write a poem to be sung to a popular tune.  After I spent two hours trying to write a song to be sung to "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star", I decided NOT to do the activity.  However, when I mentioned it to the class, they all said I needed to write a song to "Jingle Bells".  I agreed to try, and it only took me about half an hour (during the next week) to write this song.  Three weeks later, two fine sixth-grade girls sang the song in our morning worship service.
